WE ARE COMMITTED TO 6 PRINCIPLES OF PURPOSE

SECURE EMPLOYMENT

We aim to provide secure employment for ourselves. This means a livelihood for our members with some control over our working environment. We accept the responsibilities and rewards of this challenge.

FOOD IS FUNDAMENTAL

We believe everyone must have access to nutritious, uncontaminated and good value food sources. Food that tastes good is a pleasure open to all.

Organic certification provides verification and traceability of producers and sellers, and a standard for the whole industry to strive for. We want to see fresh organic produce re-established as the norm.

REDUCTION OF FOOD MILES

We aim to minimise the number of miles travelled by produce we sell. This is firstly to minimise damage to air quality, noise and road traffic accidents, and secondly to maintain awareness of seasonality and regional variation.

Many Western food indulgences are wreaking havoc and causing hunger in other countries and we believe we must all address this.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT

We wish to maintain the diverse local environment and our agricultural practices will promote the enhancement of flora and fauna in the Teifi Valley. We will be responsible in our use of water, soil and air as we see the environment as a collective resource.

Reforestation and soil depth, gained or lost, are tangible measures of progress. Soil that can produce a consistent yield without relying on oil based inputs means a sustainable yield.

We have a large global population. Keeping them fed requires innovation, careful land management and long-term planning. Quick fix GM technology is too good to be true, fossil fuels are finite.

Respecting our predecessors and understanding our history will enhance the wisdom of all. Survival, prosperity and quality of life are in our hands.

COMMERCE AND SOCIETY

We believe efficient trading activities can and should be conducted in a socially responsible way .We do not believe globalised capitalism is sustainable and furthermore acts in a socially divisive manner. To this end we are a non-profit taking co-operative company aiming to support others with similar ideals.

We wish to see a self-reliant local economy continue unhindered by outflows of cash to outside ownership. Today's children are our legacy not a food marketing opportunity.

EDUCATION

In line with the aims of the co-operative movement we will put time and energy into educational work. This will be through the operation of our site, by encouraging visitors and in the literature we produce. We shall seek to make local schools welcome guests and make space available for practical projects.
